Why Start Another JavaScript Community in Kerala? (The Honest Answer)
If you look around Kerala, you won't be short of tech communities.
From the OGs like TinkerHub, GDG chapters, MuLearn, Cloud meetups, FOSS groups, and language-focused communities like KeralaJS, FlutterKerala, KochiPython, KeralaRustaceans, KeralaJUG, and many more...
There's already a lot happening.
So…
Why start MalabarJS?
Here's the honest answer:
Because JavaScript culture in Kerala is huge, but scattered.
We have:
- JS developers working in startups
- Frontend engineers building modern web apps
- Students learning React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte
- Folks experimenting with Node, Bun, Deno
- Indie hackers shipping ideas
- Open-source contributors
- Product makers and tinkerers
- Entrepreneurs building new apps every month
…and everyone is doing it in their own pockets, corners, and circles.
Kerala even has strong product-building communities like Kerala Product Hunt - a true mafia of founders, creators, and builders shipping new products from Kerala.
But for pure JavaScript and frontend culture, there isn't one dedicated space where:
- We talk just about JavaScript and the web
- We highlight local JS projects
- We celebrate open-source from Kerala
- We document what's happening in the JS world
- We create a culture similar to React conferences, CityJS meetups, or frontend dev fests you see across the world
Kerala has the talent. Kerala has the energy.
What we're missing is simply a place for JS folks to come closer together.
So MalabarJS is simply that.
Not a replacement. Not a competitor. Not a "fix" to anything.
Just a small, simple initiative to:
- Share JS updates
- Highlight community work
- Create open-source projects together
- Celebrate frontend & JS culture
- Grow organically, slowly, and honestly
No big promises. No hype. No corporate push.
Just a space that feels like home for JavaScript developers in Kerala.
